I decided to write a blog about our trip so that everyone could keep up with us. Some of the "readers" will not have lived over there, so I will be writing as though needing to explain things to those who haven't been there. The rest of the readers are our friends who have lived in Arabia and want to hear all about our trip back. Yikes! The day is almost here. Lucy Shuler called me last year and asked me if I would go with her on the reunion trip that ARAMCO was sponsoring for all the expatriates that had lived there. There really is a sucker born every minute, and Lucy knew that I would be a likely candidate to say "yes!!" All year I have been thinking about it and planning for it. But as the economy worsened, I kept wondering if we really were going, but I moved forward getting the passport and visa ready and checking flights. So tomorrow is the big day. I am flying from Las Vegas to Phoenix and meeting Lucy at the airport, then we are flying to Amsterdam, then on to the Dammam airport in Saudi Arabia. Aramco (The Arabian American Oil Company) has arranged several tours and events for us to attend. My family left Arabia in 1994, and Lucy's family left in 1990. I can't believe it when I think it has been 15 years since I've been in Arabia. And then when I think of what all has happened in the past 15 years....I could have never written the book! When we get to Dhahran we are going to stay with Mike and Debbie Larsen. We are both so grateful to them for their hospitality. So I will write on this blog, but I don't think I will be able to post photos until we return since I'm not taking my laptop.
Stay tuned.
